I see this tactic used a lot and would be interested on other peoples opinion. I assume that this is used to encourage troops to be deployed that can easily be picked off whilst strolling back towards the main base. I've tend to drop a lone barb and let him destroy at leisure which seems to be a fair sacrifice for the extra percentage damage that could be the difference between a win and a loss. I would be interested in peoples feedback , experiences when using this tactic.

I used to think that it helped avoid a 'perfect' 100% lose, as when the attackers had finished with ur inner base, they then needed to run into the corners to 'finish you off' this took lots of time, hence sometimes narrowly avoiding the 100% lose....
But like u said, you simply plant a troop to take them out at minimal cost, leisurely pace = easy %'s toward the total.
I personally don't waste my time with the tactic, for me they are more useful to add to the periphery to help distance the attackers.
